Aiki Ju Jutsu is a throwing, locking, striking, and controlling art that emphasizes concentration and decisive, precise movements. Its theory is based upon the idea of Aiki in Yo-Ho (Ying Yang) and this can be seen in the bidirectional application of the techniques -- this is more obvious to the observer in some techniques than others. Its main purpose is controlling one's energy to a redirectional area, which is away from the lineage of the human object being striked at. This is an old century martial art that was founded in Japan at the time of the samurai era. Not only does this teach the necessary unarmed combat skills but the armed combat techniques as well.
Aiki Ju Jutsu movements are notably smooth, fluid, and usually circular. The accomplished practitioner is exceptionally well balanced and stable while remaining nimble. Aiki Ju Jutsu techniques convert momentum efficiently so that the practitioner can appear to hurl opponents through the air with almost no movement. Each movement allows less stress on the defender then the offender.
Aiki Ju Jutsu is based on a strong foundation with detailed body movement which is very important to apply techniques. Because so many of the applications are throws, a great deal of time is spent on development of proper falling and rolling techniques. Similarly, because many Aiki Ju Jutsu techniques involve controlling balance through the manipulation of the joints, students are guided through joint flexibility exercises designed to strengthen and stretch the affected joints.
